With its 88 mm waist, the BMX88 is designed for everyday versatility in terms of snow conditions and terrain. It's rockered in the forebody (starting 300 mm back from the tip, rising 170 mm), with low camber underfoot for good on-trail performance. Kastle's BMX line is a broad collection of tip-rockered freeride skis ranging in width from 78 to 128 mm. All are vertical-sidewall, wood-core constructions, but none have metal (in order to save weight and keep the widest skis manageable). The amount of rocker varies from model to model, increasing as the skis get wider. The BMX's Hook Free tail is rounded and slightly raised for easy release at the end of each turn. Dual Radius incorporates a larger radius in the forebody, so the BMX won't feel "hooky" in deep snow at speed. The Hollowtech tip is a Kastle signature: All but a thin translucent layer of glass is removed from an egg-shaped section of the tip. This reduces swing weight, and because there's less mass, tip vibration is reduced, both in amplitude and duration, so the ski is quieter on the snow and the edges are locked into the snow sooner and longer. Kastle this year increased the size of the Hollowtech oval and says it now cuts up to 15 percent from the weight of the shovel.
